Science Pub: Nature or Nurture – What’s Genetics Got To Do With It?

Sip on your favorite brew at Science Pub, a place to learn about science in an informal atmosphere; no scientific background necessary. Just bring your curiosity and a thirst to learn.

This month’s Science Pub is from 6 – 7 p.m. March 6 at Paradise Creek Brewery. The event is free but visitors are encouraged to give a $5 donation to the Palouse Discovery Science Center.

Topics and presenters are arranged by the Palouse Discovery Science Center and WSU’s Entrepreneurial Faculty Ambassador Program. All donations support PDSC. Click here for more information.

This month’s speakers:

Jon Oatley, director of the Center for Reproductive Biology, associate professor with the WSU School of Molecular Biosciences.

Over the course of nearly two decades, Oatley’s research has focused on understanding how germ cells develop which are the eternal link between parents and their offspring. Oatley’s research also focuses on engineering the genetics of farm animals.

Amit Dhingra, associate professor of genomics and biotechnology, Chair of the Entrepreneurial Faculty Ambassadors Program at Washington State University

The Dhingra research program investigates important biological processes in plants. The knowledge gained is translated to crop improvement through various approaches. Amit is the founder of Phytelligence Inc., an agriculture biotechnology spin off out of Washington State University that is revolutionizing the way food crops are grown.
