Bike rack replacement may impact where you park your bike March 19-22

WSU Transportation Services is coordinating a bike rack installation and replacement project with Facilities Services set to begin Monday, March 19, and continue through Thursday, March 22. If you are a regular bike-commuter, your rack may be affected.

There are multiple areas on campus where old bike racks will be removed and replaced with new, more user-friendly bike racks. Bike racks that are due to be replaced will have caution tape and signs on the rack. Here is a list of the areas where old bike racks will be removed and replaced:

– Sloan/Dana on the (east) Spokane St. side of the buildings

– Bustad on the front (north) entrances

– Bohler on both the (north) Cougar Way side as well as the (south) Rogers Field side

During this installation time, we ask that bike commuters please do not park your bikes at any of the old-style racks, as it will impede the installation process. Once you see that the racks have been replaced with the new bike racks, and as long as the new racks aren’t still signed or caution-taped, you are welcome to begin using the new racks, even if it is before March 22.

If you are not sure where you can park your bike during this time (March 19-22), please contact WSU Transportation Services, and we can help you locate the closest alternative rack in the meantime. Prior to March 19, you are welcome to continue using the old racks, we just ask that you please do not remove the caution-tape and signage we’ve placed on these racks, so that other bike commuters are aware of the impending installation.

If you are storing your bike on one of the racks set to be removed during the installation period (March 19-22), it will be at risk of being removed by our staff. If your bike is removed from a rack during this period, please come to the WSU Transportation Services building where we will be holding removed bikes for no more than three weeks following the installation, at which point any unclaimed bikes will be sent to WSU Surplus Stores.

For any questions regarding this bike rack installation project that will be happening next week, March 19-22, please contact TDM Coordinator Brent Atkinson at 509-335-4482 or brent.atkinson@wsu.edu.
