International peace educator visits WSU

International peace educator and certified nonviolence trainer Dr. Arthur Romano will be on campus, leading discussion and workshops to explore the critical role that meaningful dialogue can play in addressing issues of difference on campus.

Faculty and staff are invited to workshops held:

  • 10-11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, Chinook 150 – Student Affairs Staff Workshop | Courageous Leadership: Building Peace in Contentious Times
  • 1-2:30 p.m., Oct. 9, Chinook 150 – Faculty Workshop | Learning about Conflict in Higher Education Classrooms

Dr. Romano will host other events throughout the day, including a keynote address, “Civility and Difference: Sustaining Conversations that Matter on Campus,” at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in the CUB Senior Ballroom. View the complete event schedule.

Dr. Romano has implemented innovative educational programs in Africa, South America, Asia, Europe and the US. These programs have supported thousands of students in learning practical strategies for building healthy communities, becoming global leaders and productively engaging with conflict. Dr. Romano has spoken numerous times at the United Nations and has collaborated with the Department of Public Information to promote the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence and the International Day of Peace. He currently serves as a professor of conflict analysis and resolution at George Mason University.
