New Bike Commuter Locker/Shower Membership now available

WSU Transportation Services has teamed up with University Recreation (UREC) to offer bike commuters the option to purchase a Bike Commuter Locker/Shower Membership at a cost of $30 per calendar year. Staff and faculty are welcome to utilize payroll deduction to pay for their membership with a one-time $30 deduction.

The $30 annual membership, which may be purchased through UREC, includes a locker in the faculty/staff fitness locker rooms at the Physical Education Building (PEB) or Smith Gym. Towel service is not included, so users are encouraged to bring their own towel(s) to store in their locker. The membership also includes access to the WSU Fix-it bike shop located at the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC) at no charge, as well as membership pricing for the Do It Yourself (DIY) Bike Series through the ORC, which equals about a $20 discount.

The women’s locker room and showers are located in Smith 57, and the men’s locker room and showers are located in PEB 30. There is currently bike parking located underneath the PEB overhang on the east side of the building, as well as in front of and behind Smith Gym and Bohler Gym. Furthermore, Transportation Services will be upgrading and adding additional bike parking near PEB, Smith Gym, and Bohler Gym in some locations later this month.

As part of the launch of this membership, UREC is offering a kick-off promotion. For those who purchase between now and the end of Spring Semester, you’ll get the rest of Spring Semester for free. For example, for someone buying a membership today, instead of the membership expiring a year from the purchase date, it will remain valid until May 31st of 2019.

Transportation Services and UREC recognized that there may be cyclist commuters that wish to utilize a shower and locker after commuting to work by bike, however many of those people may not have shower facilities in the building in which they work, as few buildings on campus do. Furthermore, some may not want to buy an entire Student Recreation Center (SRC) or Chinook fitness center membership just to be able to utilize showers and lockers. Thus, the two departments have teamed up to offer this locker and shower membership at a low cost to users.
